plonq: (Plonq @ Work)
When they rolled out the new phone system in our office they didn't have enough of the new sets to go around (they were lost in transit somewhere this side of Denver), so most of us in "support" were given clunky old Lucent units to use until the new ones arrived.

The new phones arrived on Thursday, and the vendor came through on Friday installing them on the remaining desks.  They were adamant that this would be their last time out, so if we had any issues, we were to raise them on Friday.

Sadly, you can probably guess where I'm going here...

When I went home on Friday (I work an early shift) they still hadn't hit our little office.  When I came in this morning, there was no phone for [livejournal.com profile] plonq!  It's not that I'm all hot and bothered to get a new phone on my desk - let's face it, office phones aren't that exciting - but the old phones don't support a lot of the features, including some that I had on my previous phone before they gave me this temp.  I am not amused, nor gruntled by this development.  Neither am I surprised.

I got a reply to my email query about the phones.

"Plonq, they ran out of phones last week, 16 more are on order."

If you listen close you can hear the sound of me not holding my breath.  I predict that I will not see a new unit before May.

On the other hand, I must begrudgingly give them the nod for their quick response.  I am also somewhat mollified by the fact that they ran out of phones, and didn't simply skip our office (which they have done in the past with other initiatives).  That being said...

They came through our little office twice to count phones at the start of this exercise.  How could they have come up that many phones short?  It's not like the phones started breeding the moment that they turned their backs. (One suspects their method of counting went something like this, "One... two... three... another one...")

Buoyed by the relative ease with which we breezed through Undead Stratholm again last night (and my priest pants dropped - huzzah!  Hm ,that doesn't sound good out of context...) - anyway, we steamrolled Undead Stratholm with an in-guild 10-person raid last night.  Things were a little dicey in the early going as our other high-level priest got used to his new role in the party (he re-specced himself holy for the occasion), but the mage took the brunt of that.  He died four times before our guild leader suggested that a) the other priest pay particular attention to him, and b) he modify his tactics a bit to draw less aggression from the critters in the area.  After that it was smooth sailing through to the end.  So smooth, in fact that...

Buoyed by the relative ease with which we breezed through Undead Stratholm again last night, we decided to take another run through Scholomance.  Scholo is a bit tricker than Undead Strat, but we've ground our way through it before with 10-person raids.  We've run Scholo before, so we know the routine: avoid the green zombies who explode and spread the love around, and keep the lower-level party members near the back so that they don't draw the ire of the critters before you're ready.  It was going smashingly until we veered from our usual route to explore a different part of the instance.  In euphemistic terms, it was a learning experience.  In practical terms, we wiped hard.  The creatures of Scholomance didn't just kill us, they slaughtered us, taunted us, and took deviant liberties with our corpses when they were done.  Sadly it happened when we were about ready to confront the final boss in that zone.  We got a bit impatient and drew the ire of, well, a bit more than we could handle.

Next time we'll know.
