Long time, no update
Apr. 4th, 2019 03:57 pmOne would think that with all the free time I have now, I would spend more time reading and updating LJ/DW. One might thing that, but one would be seriously underestimating my low initiative levels. I've even found time to dust off Net Hack. The problem is that DW/LJ require brain power and attention, and my brain is still on recovery mode from work. Now that I'm starting to get past the novelty of being off work, boredom is finally pushing me to start being creative again. I'm actually writing again - started on my first story that is not either a entry for a con book, or an obligatory Christmas tale.
At the moment it's just an idea for a story start, and a specific scene I wanted to write, but beyond that there is neither plot, nor conclusion. In other words, it fits the mould of my usual stories. We'll see if anything comes of it, though I plan to include the written portions somewhere eventually.
I don't know where
atara got the link for it, but I've been fascinated by this site for the last couple of hours. It is a search engine that returns Youtube videos that were uploaded under the default name generated by the camera. The majority of the ones I've seen so far have been short videos of people engaging in mundane activities. The mundaneness takes on a strange sort of pathos though, when I click through to Youtube itself and see that the video was posted in, say, 2010 and that I am only the second person to have viewed it.
There was one video which was four minutes of a little boy flipping through a big scrap book, pointing at things in it and naming them. I couldn't figure out the language, but the look and sound was very sub-Saharan. I clicked through to Youtube and clicked on the poster to see what else they had uploaded to see if it contained any clues. They had a total of six videos, all of them uploaded in 2009. Three were of the same little boy, and the other was a baby with whom the parents were playing. Their videos had a total of 30 views between them, and they have not uploaded anything since.
I was left wondering if they had not uploaded any more videos because nobody was watching them, or if the novelty had worn off, or if something had happened to the family itself.
