A friendly note to the guy in our office:

When you are at work, it's a good idea not to use more than one swear word per piece of correspondence...

... especially when you are responding to the call for women to join the company's all-women hockey team

... and you hit "reply to all"

... and "all" includes all staff and managers

... yes, including the director

... and HR

... though I'm sure they'll get a chuckle out of your reply of (cleaned up to be "family friendly"), "I don't actually play hockey, but I'll bet the showers would be fun."

Can you say "Oops. Did I do that?"

Even if he had not hit "Reply All" I'm sure his response would've been circulated to those at higher levels. For his reply sorta smacks of "sexual harassment".

I don't know Canada's laws regarding SH, but I know it, at best, would have him getting a talking to here in the U.S.

The guy who sent this (if you couldn't guess from the nature of his post) is a real piece of work. He's used to being in the company dog house, so I'm sure he'll come through this with just a couple more notches on his disciplinary record.

A fellow did something considerably worse a few years back and managed to survive. Somebody emailed him a particularly nasty sexist/racist joke (yes, it had all the wrong elements) that he decided to forward to a couple of his buddies in the office. He typed one of the addresses wrong, however, and sent it to the head of our HR office in Minneapolis.

As a woman of the same ethnicity as the target of the joke she was somewhat... unamused.
