A friendly note to the guy in our office:

When you are at work, it's a good idea not to use more than one swear word per piece of correspondence...

... especially when you are responding to the call for women to join the company's all-women hockey team

... and you hit "reply to all"

... and "all" includes all staff and managers

... yes, including the director

... and HR

... though I'm sure they'll get a chuckle out of your reply of (cleaned up to be "family friendly"), "I don't actually play hockey, but I'll bet the showers would be fun."

Can you say "Oops. Did I do that?"

Even if he had not hit "Reply All" I'm sure his response would've been circulated to those at higher levels. For his reply sorta smacks of "sexual harassment".

I don't know Canada's laws regarding SH, but I know it, at best, would have him getting a talking to here in the U.S.

The guy who sent this (if you couldn't guess from the nature of his post) is a real piece of work. He's used to being in the company dog house, so I'm sure he'll come through this with just a couple more notches on his disciplinary record.

A fellow did something considerably worse a few years back and managed to survive. Somebody emailed him a particularly nasty sexist/racist joke (yes, it had all the wrong elements) that he decided to forward to a couple of his buddies in the office. He typed one of the addresses wrong, however, and sent it to the head of our HR office in Minneapolis.

As a woman of the same ethnicity as the target of the joke she was somewhat... unamused.

Wow, that's magnitudes of stupid.

Darwinism in the workplace is fun!

I've always maintained that our company is doing a service to society by giving jobs to people who are otherwise unemployable.

That's... wow. That's like shooting yourself in the foot with a grenade launcher. I'm sure he's got a bright future ahead of him with the company...

He's been around for better than 20 years. He's tried a few times in that span to get himself fired (not intentionally, mind you, but that made his effort no less valiant). I don't think he has any aspirations for promotion. Which is just as well, really.

Hopefully he'll be better behaved in his next job.

I'd say there are even odds that he'll still be around this time next year to stick another foot in his mouth. I don't know where his discipline record stands (I know he got a few demerits last year) but even if this pushes him into the firing range, I expect they'll either defer, or slap him with a suspension. With the new systems coming on line this year they're really reluctant to let any one go who has any kind of company experience.
