Year In Pictures: 2010/05/01
May. 1st, 2010 01:57 pmThe plan for the first half of our day was pretty much set. We were going to head out for some inexpensive breakfast, pick up a new cartridge for our printer, and if the weather held up we were going to walk over to the bike shop and pick up my new bike. It's a good 45-minute walk, but we've been looking for an excuse to get more exercise.
And then this happened.

I jammed my toes so hard on the corner of the bed that I thought at first that I had broken one or more of them. I hobbled around a bit making little peeping sounds of pain before it settled down enough for me to decide that my toes were still attached. I took an Ibuprofen and put on my shoes, and the toes settled down to a dull but manageable throb. By the time we got to the restaurant for breakfast the pain had flared back up again, and I started wondering again if I had broken one of them.
The bruised one is swelling a bit, and other than being a bit stiff from the swelling, it is as flexible as it has always been. Curiously enough, the worse the bruising looks, the less it hurts.
Anyway, we altered our plans a bit, and
atara drove us over to the bike shop instead so that I could get the bike. By the time I was about five blocks from the shop I concluded that the seat was slightly too low for me, and the tires were a bit under-inflated. There was a pretty good layer of dust on the bike when I bought it, so I suspect that it was in the showroom long enough to have lost some air. It almost felt like riding through soft sand all the way home, and by the time I arrived at the house my legs felt like rubber. I was ready to call it a day, but
atara wanted to haul out her bike and go riding together. I couldn't say "no" once she turned on those puppy-dog eyes.
We adjusted the seat, and I topped up the tires, then we mounted up and rode down to Safeway for Milk. It was a much easier ride, and by the time we were on our way home my legs were feeling full of energy again. I could probably have handled a loop of the park and back, but we needed to start getting ready for
atara's graduation party over at
pierrekrahn's place this afternoon.
I feel good about this bike. It's a nice ride. I have a hunch the two of us are going to get in a lot more riding this summer than we did last.

Finally, I'll leave you with a video appropriate to the date. The lyrics are slightly NSFW (depending on where you work).
