I cooked up a big pot of chlli today from a recipe that I found on-line. It looked and smelled really good, but it was a little on the mild side so I decided to cut in some fresh peppers that [livejournal.com profile] fetlock gave me. As I was cutting up the first Habanero I sampled a bit of it, and it seemed to be fairly tame, so I cut up the other two and added them as well.

It seems that the evil oils in the Habaneros are time-released, because about 40 minutes later I noticed a burning sensation under my fingernails. Boy howdy do they burn!

On the other hand, the chilli was really really good. [livejournal.com profile] atara and [livejournal.com profile] pierrekrahn both complained that it was a little hot for their liking, but I quite enjoyed it - though I may have damaged myself. I'm still sweating profusely.

I saved some for you [livejournal.com profile] fetlock.

LOL, i tried one that night and it was hot as hell in my meat sauce. I will have to come by and try it on sunday . I'll give you a callthen , it should have ample time to mix and stew in its own juices by then.

Ack! As originator of said pepper plant, yes, your fingernails will burn if you make too much contact with them while chopping them up. It may last for 24 hours after the fact. Good luck, and good eatins!

I wondered why all those fire trucks were headed northwest at a high rate of speed...

Sounds tasty!

Careful with that stuff! Had a patient a few nights ago with some pretty uncomfortable hands after cutting about 2 dozen of the suckers.

Few people realize the chemical burns they can get from those things. Hope your hands feel better soon! :)
