plonq: (Blah Mood)
This current Windows install has followed me through three different motherboards, but last night I finally managed to kill it entirely.  I've managed to make it stop recognizing some of my hardware, and I can make it crash reliably by attempting to use the network.  Ironically it was my attempts to fix the networking that caused this meltdown in the first place.

The only upside I can see from this is that I will (with luck) be picking up a new SATA hard drive for the install, and I'll have a virgin copy of Windows to play with when I'm done.  I should see a reasonable speed increase on my computer when I'm done.

... then I have to start tracking down install disks and keyfiles and... bleah.  I can see how I'll be spending the rest of my week.  =(

[Edit: This strip always comes to mind whenever I experience serious computer problems.]

There's an old adage about bad things going in threes.  Last night my computer died.  This morning the network card in our office printer died.

I'm more-or-less back in business again. I have Windows installed on the new disk array, along with the bare essentials (like World of Warcraft). Over the next few days I'll spend some time importing things from my old drive - like some of my Firefox plugins, favourites, and a few essential programs that I don't want to live without.

On the other hand, I'm going to see what programs I can live without and see if I can avoid some of the clutter this time around.
