I have just been told that our local liquor stores have added this to their product line.  I've always wanted to try Absinthe, but at (so I'm told) $78 a bottle I may be waiting awhile yet.  Maybe I'll grow some wormwood this year and make my own...

Is REAL Absinthe legal in Canada? Its not in the US, though "absinthe" is sold.. it just lacks wormwood extract. Sometimes its smuggled into the US from Britain, but I've never been lucky enough to come across it.

I've said before, I've often wanted to try REAL absinthe, hallucinogenic properties be DAMNED!

I will investigate and report back. Rumour has it that it's the "real" stuff, but with a lower level of thujone than the stuff you might find in, say, the Czech Republic. I'd heard that it was available in BC, Ontario and Quebec, but the Manitoba liquor board still had it on their banned list.

Since all the liquor stores here (the ones that sell the hard stuff anyway) are government run, I assume that means it's been removed from the restricted list.

Apparently it's been in stock for a while. Here's a news story.

I thought the quote was:
"Absinthe makes the tart grow fonder." >;)

As I understand it...

...Absinthe tastes absolutely horrid. One method of serving it is to carefully pour a small shot over a flaming and/or carmelized sugarcube to make it palatable. But according to Sebor Absinthe, that's a thing of the past.

And again, per the site, all the bad reputations of the "Green Fairy" are the results of cheap knockoffs and poor ingredients. Which would make a lot of sense, considering the cost of this stuff. Wow!

Hmmmm. Something worth looking into, maybe...
