plonq: (Kinda bleah mood)
We are the first day into what is expected to be a prolonged heatwave. The temperatures are not expected to get over 100° F, but if this follows the pattern of the heatwave we had back in June then we are likely to break that barrier.

It's not as much the temperatures of this heatwave that has people here concerned, but its duration. There's no end insight. Couple that with the arid conditions we've been under since last year and it's easy to understand that this whole area is like a tinder box. As an added bonus to the heat and dry, we're under an almost constant pall of smoke from all of the fires around us. We might see a bit of the rain they are predicting, but save a few very isolated incidents this summer, the rain has vaporized before it got to us.

Seven Day Average

If we don't get some rain, and/or cooling soon then we are probably looking at wide-spread agricultural failures this year. A number of cattle farmers have already announced that they are culling half of their herds for lack feed. Some parts of the province have already declared themselves in a state of emergency.

It's not good.
