Unless I have buggered up the settings again, this post should automatically cross-post to both LJ and Dreamwidth. I will keep posting to both for as long as my LJ account remains active (I don't tend to delve into the kind of politics that would get my account banned by their new TOS), but DW is my new backup plan, and probably my long-term future plan as well. Once I start building up a bigger network of friends over there I am probably going to spring for a paid account.

I have about a half-dozen posts to just LJ that I thought were posting to both sites, but I derped the settings in Semagic. I've fixed that now. I think. This is my test post to check that theory.

If you are still reading me here, and want to follow me over to DW as well, you can find me here.

I went for a walk last week and caught a couple of post-melt pictures. Other than some of the larger stacks, our snow is effectively gone now.

As I was walking past the cemetary, I barely spared it a second glance before I backpedalled a quarter of a block to capture this shot.

I see that Livejournal has added a “like” button. How very Facebook of them.

I like the idea in principle because sometimes I just want to acknowledge that I read somebody’s post, and at the end I can just click a button to let them know that they are not posting to a void, even if I could not think of anything to add or reply.

Having said this, I would prefer if they added a nuanced response button.

Facebook has addressed this to some extent by extending their selections to expressions such as: like, love, laugh, wow, happy, sad and angry.

I’d like to see slightly more nuanced buttons though, for concepts such as:

“I read this post and I like what you said.”

“I read this post and I disliked with what you said.”

“I read this post and I agree with what you said.”

“I read this post and I disagree with what you said.”

“I read this post and I laughed at the drollness of what you said.”

“I read this post and it made me angry.”

“I read this post and it made me sad.”

“I read this post and it triggered emotions that are not otherwise covered here.”

“I read this post and I commiserate with what you have said.”

“I read this post and I would like to express my condolences.”

“I read this post and I would like to express my condolences, tempered by the shared knowledge that we both hated the individual who is sick, injured, dying or dead.”

“I read this post and I agree with what you said, but ironically so because everyone who knows me knows that I would not agree with something like this.”

“I read this post and I want those three minutes of my life back. This was not only a waste of perfectly good words, but it took up real estate in my friends feed that could have been better served by a dank meme, or a picture of somebody’s dog. I would unfriend you, but I find some level of schadenfreude in following the train wreck that is your life.”

“I read this post and I have nothing more to add.”

“I did not read this post, but I clicked this button anyway.”

Since this is a paid account, and I also put up good money in order to have a crazy person number of avatars, I figured I may as well as well fill more of those empty slots.

Obviously I have added a few ponies because I find these little pastel girls quite delightful, but I have also gone through and replaced some of my older avatars with new ones. I was going through my list of user pictures and noticed that there were a few that I do not recall ever using, or perhaps used once when I first created them.

On another note, there has been this semi-regular "clank clank clank" sound lately that is very reminiscent of somebody slowly wheeling a metal cart with one flat wheel through the office. I have tried to place the source a couple of times, even standing up as soon as I heard it to spot the culprit, but in speaking to some of my office mates this morning, I have concluded that it is coming from our ventilation system.

I guess this is an improvement over the semi-regular, shrill squeaking sound that used to come from the heating ducts. It's not much of an improvement though, because it is rather loud.

The sound moves, sometimes coming closer, and sometimes moving away which is why I thought it was caused by a mail cart. The heating/cooling system in here is set up by independent zones, and I assume the air flow is controlled by a series of gates, so this is probably just the system regulating its air flow.

It just started doing this a couple of weeks ago though, which makes me wonder if it has been malfunctioning up until now, or if the noise is the result of a recent malfunction.

I did not pay close attention to the can when I grabbed it, so I was expecting sardines in my lunch today. It is not that I am displeased by my accidental selection, but I would have psyched myself up for squid if I had known.

Wish me luck.

If I have any say in the matter, my return here has some traction and staying power this time. There are more of you active here then I had even been hoping to find, though it does feel like I am posting to a void of zombie accounts for the most part. Still, I am posting here for selfishly cathartic reasons anyway. There are things that I cannot say on Facebook, and cannot cram into Twitter.
