When I was descending the basement stairs yesterday evening to fetch some frozen kale from the chest freezer, I slipped on the second-to-last step and almost went down.
Fortunately, I managed to get a foot under myself on the basement floor to avoid falling hard on my tail bone.
Unfortunately, that foot ended up landing toes-first, and it hurt a whole lot.
I hopped around a bit, cursing the pain away and carried on with my mission (I made a sausage & kale pasta that is part of our routine meal rotation).
When the pain had not fully cleared up later, I peeled off my slippers and socks and noticed that a couple of the toes were turning black, and I had trouble flexing them. Great - more broken toes. I am a bit of a veteran when it comes to breaking toes.
I took some pain killers before I went to bed, and while they still look a bit iffy after my shower this morning, they don't look or feel nearly as bad as they did yesterday. I am leaning now toward bruised rather than broken.
This time.
