Here's a depressing Photoessay of my town.

I've heard it said that a picture is worth a thousand words.  Well, this Photoessay is the word "bleah" about 50,000 times.  Trust me, it's quite as bleak and depressing as it looks in a lot of these pictures.

I don't know, it didn't look all that depressing to me, at least for someone who doesn't mind winter. For a slice-of-life photo essay, it was quite well done, showing some of the good and some of the bad while generally not showing major attractions.

To be fair, the photographer didn't dwell too much in some of the shadier parts of town, and most northern cities tend to look pretty desolate in the winter.

I'd like to see a similar project done in the spring or summer. The brief flash of green that we see during the short warm(ish) season really transforms the city.

I know that, on average, it's winter more than it's summer here, but I'm a bit surprised that this person did their "photoessay" in the winter, rather than waiting until Spring. I guess when the muse strikes, you act.

Are you giving any thought to MFF this year? We're going, and t'would be nice to see the southern snow kitty again.

Would be nice to visit again. I wonder if the border would hassle me for the parking ticket I got up there? :)

Will definitely be at MFF. It's my favorite. Might be going down in the RV with a bunch o furs, will be there regardless.

Hm - good question about the parking ticket. I doubt it, since parking tickets are a civic thing, but the border is a federal agency. I could make a couple of calls and find out, though.

We've got a whole group from here doing the MFF trip as well. Four fursuiters in a van, and a couple more of us by car.

I don't know, it looks rather charming, in its own way. And at least it's sunny! It's the months of ceaseless cloud, fog and rain that make my country depressing. No matter how cold it is, if there's sunshine, I'm happy :)

I grew up with fog, rain and ceaseless cloud (I'm a wet west coast lad). I'd take that any day over the cold we get here. The sun gives no warmth here in the winter.

Believe me, it gets plenty cold enough to undercut the happy, at least when outside.

I love that he lablled the beater with no hubcaps, mix-n-match paint and rust a 'classic winnipeg car'. :)

Actually, aside from a few photos of the Main Street strip and North End, Winnipeg manages to look fairly stately. The winter setting does make it look downright bleak though ... it definitely shows better in other seasons. Having been away for a few years, I can say that Winnipeg isn't as bad as a lot of people think (or as bad as I thought it was). It's certainly not dynamic or progressive, but it's lively, it has a good cultural scene, and it's affordable. :)
