This trick works both at home and at the office.  Open this link in a new tab and then close that tab again.  I've only tested this with the latest Firefox, with Internet Explorer.  The latest IE caught it, but FF did not, nor did the earlier version of IE 6 that we use at work.  Hmph.

FF seems to catch it okay if it's the only tab open, but if you open it in a second tab then it springs a pop-up when you close that tab again.

I'm running the same version for Windows (1.0PR). If I disable Javascript in FF then the problem goes away, so if it gets too annoying I suppose I can do that.

Hm. I wonder if it's a bug that was introduced in 1.0PR?

hmmm. I got nothing in either 1.0PR or 0.8. I have both javascript and java turned on too.

It only seems to work if you open it in a new tab once the browser is already open, and it only generates the popup if you subsequently close that tab. Opening up the link by itself does not cause a popup, nor does closing the browser itself rather than just the tab.

A friend at work is running FF .92, and it doesn't seem to affect that one, but it does it in both 1.0PR here and at home, so I'm thinking it appears to be a bug that got introduced in the latest version of FF.

Wait a minute. I found the pop-up window. It wasn't where I expected it.

The bug also appears on Macintoshes. (And you can't quit the program to get rid of it, either!)

Yeah, in both instances I did as you instructed by opening a new tab. Perhaps you have whatever site you're hosting that page on set as a trusted page for popups? I never mess with it because I dislike popups, but I recall there being a place in FF where you can set a site as allowed to give you popups.

For reference, there's no pop-up with Safari.

Of course, you wouldn't expect there to be, but I was just checking. :)
