I fell down the Spotify rabbit hole again this evening. Actually, I took up where I left off the other evening. While I was listening to CBC yesterday they played a quirky song by a Quebec artist. I didn't catch the name of it, so I grabbed my phone and used Sound Hound to identify it for me. After I found the artist on Spotify, I used the "fans also like" to see if there were others in the genre that I might like as well.

I was nearing the end of the artists, but nothing jumped out at me until I got down to an indie artist named Ada Lea. I listened to the top song on her list and was instantly hooked, ultimately adding five of her songs to my playlist. I've found a few more for my playlist by going through the list of "fans also liked" under her. Most of it is very offbeat and down-tempo, which is definitely one of the genres that I like.

I had a moment this weekend when I reflected back on how much my thought process has changed over the years. When I first bought this house, I had some basic knowledge about how to cook, but I think I could count on one hand how many times I used the oven, and I seldom turned on the stove for anything more complicated than boiling water. Many of my meals consisted of grabbing something on my way to or from work.

Now that I am in charge of planning and preparing meals, I've become much less intimidated by the kitchen. That really hit home this weekend when we ended up doing a fend for yourself breakfast. I'd thought we were going to do something together, but unbeknownst to me, [personal profile] atara had already wandered out to the kitchen and cooked herself some soysage and eggs. I was going to do something similar, but I was really in the mood for a breakfast sandwich. The stumbling block to that plan was that we did not have any bread.

"No problem," I thought. "We have buttermilk. It will only take me a few minutes to throw together some biscuits."

I had the oven preheated, and was halfway through rolling them out when it occurred to me that I would not have even considered this be a viable option as recently as two years ago. I wonder when biscuits went from being something too fiddly for me to tackle, to a thing I toss together when I can't be bothered with something complicated.
