What an interesting evening!
Aug. 9th, 2004 09:44 pmFirst, I need to say Thanks! to
kevinpease for the new LJ icons - one of which I'm using right now. (If you haven't seen it, Kevin does ones of Plonq's favourite comics). What a nice birthday present!
After a quite, and (for the most part) uneventful day at work,
atara treated me out for sushi dinner tonight. We went there earlier this year, and left with the impression that the place was good, but a bit pricey. Once again the food was very good, and the prices were a bit dear, but the service was... interesting. The cook had a whole gaggle of trainees who were learning the fine art of sushi, and he was so preoccupied that he forgot to forward our order to the kitchen, so although we got our sushi in good time, none of the other parts of the meal showed up. We flagged down the waitress and asked about our soup, and I guess she figured out then what we had ordered, and she rushed into the back to have the rest of it prepared. Aside from having all of our courses piled precariously on the small table at once, it was all good. We'll probably go back again on another special occasion.
As we were leaving,
atara spotted something on the road that warranted another look. Upon closer inspection we discovered that it was a Mastercard - still active according to the date on the card. We brought it home with the intention of calling Mastercard so that they could let the owner know that he had lost his card (assuming he didn't know yet).
atara called them and, after spending an inordinate amount of time on hold, I finally suggested that she should hang up and I'd try calling the card's owner directly so that HE could spend the time on hold instead of us.
After a bit of phone tag I managed to track him down on his cell phone and I asked him if he was aware that he'd lost his master card. Aware? Of course he was aware - he was robbed at gun point last night. Oops. He works very close to my building, so I'm going to meet him tomorrow and give him back the card so that he can cut it up/turn it in as evidence/whatever. I'll post an update here if that meeting turns out to be more interesting than it should be.
