I just got off the phone with the insurance broker.  The company who we had our home insurance through has decided to jack up their rates this year, so the broker is going to shop around for a different company/policy.  Unfortunately the one that has the best rates does not have a home-replacement guarantee for any houses built before 1950 (ours was built in 1925).  The short of it is that it sounds like our house insurance will be going up.  Happy f**king birthday, plonq.

I probably won't get a birthday cake this year. I think atara is treating me out for sushi this evening, so I may get a fish cake with a couple of candle fish stuck nose-down into it.
