I had a quick look at the forecast on the Environment Canada website, and their current conditions show as "Distant Precipitation".

Eh? I've never seen that one before.  Isn't that a blanket weather statement that they could make any time?  "Somewhere in the world it is raining."

I guess I'll file that under "informative, but not very useful".

You got to remember what the obs really are used for...and that's for pilots. It means while there is no rain at the airport, the person taking the observation can see rain, or whatever, in the distance.
