Even though I am coming up toward the end of a week of vacation time, I have accomplished surprisingly little. Part of that is by design, and part is that I have a lot of inertia. I managed to get out of the house again today under the pretence of running a couple of chores, and I took my camera along for the ride. My initial plan was to drive down to St John's Park for some black & white shots in the graveyard, but the car had a mind of its own and I ended up in Kildonan Park instead. Once I got there, I contracted a mild case of camera-related ADD, stopping 4-5 times in a short stretch when something photogenic caught my eye.

I ultimately settled on this humble flower shot as my picture of the day. I wondered at the time if it was an intentional thing, or just some flowers that found root in a rotting stump. When I look at the Google street view of the spot (linked above), there was neither a tree, nor a stump there at the time, so I guess this is intentional.

I shot this one at 1/60th of a second at f/5.0. That's pretty much wide-open for this lens, which is one of the reasons why I like the 50mm lens. Other than some tweaks to the sharpness and saturation, I didn't do much to this one in software.

On a more [livejournal.com profile] aerofox-related note, I wonder if they make these in Aero size?

Even in the hottest days of summer, winter is never far from our mind.
Signs of winter abound

I've got a much better version of this picture in my collection. I just shot this one because I was considering it for a PoTD picture. Instead I used it to play with a couple of filters.
Halftone Bridge

And here is the bridge again. The filters in GIMP actually produced something closer to what I was trying to do.
