It's my turn to place with the ice cream machine. This is a pretty simple recipe consisting of cream, milk, sugar and a whole vanilla bean. I let it chill overnight and ran it through the ice cream maker today.

[livejournal.com profile] atara was needling me for making something a boring flavour like vanilla, but after tasting it as we were putting it into the freezer to cure, she's not calling it "boring" any more.

Oh man, I LOVE good vanilla ice cream!

Who-ever associated the term "vanilla" with "cowardly beige" or "senior citizen grey" should be severely chastised.

This is quite possibly the best vanilla ice cream I have ever eaten, though it's very rich. I am almost afraid to tell you what the butterfat content is in this ice cream.

My dad ( the retired dairy chemist) tells me that vanilla is the easiest flavor to screw up. The line between OMG-fantastic and so-so is way thinner than many realize. Although my favorite flavors are butter crunch in the winter, and peach or strawberry in the summertime.

This one turned out really good; creamy and smooth with just the right amount of vanilla flavour. The only thing is that it's very rich. It leaves a slight butter residue on the spoon (and your tongue) as you're eating it.
