Grapes closed their last restaurant in Winnipeg. I'm a little sad because I liked their food, but on the other hand I suppose I could have done my part by going there more often. I hadn't visited the chain since they closed the one downtown (though that one was not entirely their fault - the building owner cancelled their lease to turn it into office space).

On the other hand, if they ran their restaurant the same way they designed their web page it's no wonder the chain is slowly folding. Let this page stand as a warning against hiring your sister's kid to design your business web portal. If it doesn't look ugly enough, try resizing your browser window a bit. I love the jpeg artefacts and the squished pictures and fonts. Resizing the window doesn't really do much for that, mind you.

I've only been to Grapes a couple of times.
Both times the food was just fine and the service was terrible.

That website is terrible! Who still uses mailto links? And why doesn't the mouse change when I hover over a link? (perhaps it's just my work machine though)
I took a peek at the source code and I cried a bit on the inside. They used MS Word to create this! I could recreate this crap in less than 10 lines of code, instead of their 2 pages!

The one in Thompson (if it's still open even) is really bad news. But then again, most things in Thompson are. :P
I wouldn't recommend making the 8 hour drive up there even if you really are craving it.
