Many are the times when I have regretted a lack of a camera when I was out and about, but I think I can count on one hand how many times I have lamented, "I wish I hadn't brought this camera along."

We went for a walk in search of dinner this evening, and on the way home I spied a small tree blossoming all over the place. I stopped to grab a picture, and after taking a couple at different exposures a bumblebee caught my eye. I quickly turned and snapped a shot before it could get away - though you can tell by the blurring of the bee that it was a close call.

I shot this one at 1/180th of a second with an aperture of f/5.6. It was a good setting for a static shot, but the shutter was a tad slow for an action shot with the bee. If I had known that I was going for a moving target I'd have gone with f/4.0 and 1/250th of a second or faster, even if it meant underexposing the shot a bit. I'd probably have upped the ISO to 200 as well

Anyway, all that aside I think the picture turned out okay.

Not much software manipulation on this one. I resized it down a bit, sharpened it a smidgen to bring the bee into sharper focus, and boosted the saturation to compensate for the somewhat under-saturated nature of the RAW images that this camera produces.

Thank you! I've been using this project as a chance to try and hone my photography skills.

The toughest part has been coming up with something different every day for a picture. When I started struggling for ideas after the second week, I knew I was in for a challenge.
