Year In Pictures: 2010/04/05
Apr. 5th, 2010 09:13 pmIce cream! (so much for my healthy lunch)
atara and I went for a walk to get dinner this evening, and then took the car out for a topless cruise after (the car was topless, not us). We hit up Sweet Tops up on Henderson on the way home and treated ourselves to our first ice cream of the season. We're both looking forward to summer.

I was not happy with the background in this shot and made a half-assed attempt to de-emphasize it a bit. It almost worked, but rather than making it stand out more, the drab background actually seemed to leech colour out of the parfait. As a result, the only significant changes I made to this picture (other than the usual exposure and colour corrections) was to crop it.
I shot this one in shutter-priority mode, with the shutter locked at 1/60th of a second. I knew that it was probably going to be a bit under-exposed because I was shooting with the zoom lens, but I decided I would rather have a sharp picture that was too dark than a nice, bright but blurry picture. I'd also have been better off moving in closer and using a wider angle, rather than zooming it to 95mm because then I could have shot at f/4.0 rather than f/5.6, but I think it turned out well enough.
Even better, I should have gone back to the car and swapped out with the 50mm lens for the lower light shot, but I did not want to leave my ice cream unattended for that long. It's not a good part of town.
