Bollywood watch

plonqI think that tandoori chicken may be imminent! The past couple of weeks I have been taking a slightly circuitous route to work so that I could walk past the potential chicken and pizza outlet. When I passed the place on Friday the windows were still blinded, and there was no outward sign of life. This morning they had replaced the blinds with red see-through curtains, they had a full menu board over the counter, and there was an (unlit) open sign in the window. I choose to interpret those as signs of progress.
I mentioned this to a co-worker, and when he wandered out for his morning cigarette (he takes long breaks so that the smell will dissipate -- he doesn't know that we know that he's started smoking again) he walked over for a look and found a bunch dirty take-out menus in a snow bank beside the building.
The menu contains no surprises, other than the fact that the prices are more reasonable than I had expected; e.g., 4-piece chicken meal for $6.99, 2-slices of pizza and drink for $3.00. I have a hunch these are introductory prices to attract regular clientèle, and that we will probably see them climb upwards over the next few months. Some of the highlights from the menu include:
Fish Pakora, which they apparently sell by the pound.
Samosa
Perogies ... yes, perogies. "Potato & Cheese filled, dipped in Bollywood special batter and deep fried." Welcome to Winnipeg.
Kabobs and Egg Rolls.
Tandoori chicken combo boxes. These intrigue me.
The also sell just chicken, similar to what you might see at KFC except that it's tandoori chicken, and it's cheaper than KFC.
Finally they have some pizzas that look very intriguing. The Spicy Indian contains "Fresh mushrooms, Tomato, Green Peppers, Hot Banana Peppers, Hot Sauce, Ginger & Garlic." They have another one called Hot Tandoori which contains "Combination of Chilli Peppers, Onion, Roasted Chicken, Hot Banana Peppers, Sauce & Extra Cheese."
We are going to target one day this week to not bring lunches from home so that we can sample their fare.
