Man, I looooove the RX8 (it's one of the few Japanese cars I'd consider). But I'd say it's in the entry-level category of "true" sports cars (first price point with RWD, good low-end torque and across-the-band power) along with the Solstice, BMW 3-series coupe, and Mustang GT. As with your car, these are all still 'reasonable' in terms of price, maintenance, parts, insurance, etc. This is a good thing. I think you've made a great choice that's fun without being outrageously impractical. :) Even a one-level step up to a Nissan 350Z or Audi TT is still fairly sane.
By contrast, mid-life crises cars are characterized by wretched excess and a certain "show off" status. They aren't reasonable at all, so I think it's a good thing you didn't buy one. :) I'd say anything in the Boxster, BMW M-coupe, Mercedes CLK, and on up from there qualifies.
