I finally got to meet my brother's dog. His name is Furlough (or Furlow? I forgot to ask how it was spelled.) and he's a good dog. In this picture I caught him peeking around the corner, watching us enjoy a late snack in the kitchen. He would like to join us, but that would involve leaving the carpet. Leaving the carpet is bad because hardwood floor is scary. Furlough has a phobia about smooth floors. OK, so I need to qualify my previous statement; he's a good dog, but with issues.

Mom had a couple of poinsettias sitting on a table in the front window. I thought it would make an interesting picture to have the flowers in silhouette against the vertical blinds, but I forgot that I had set my camera to spot metering. I later took the same picture with the settings that I had intended, but I liked this result much better.

Nice pics. It would have been nice to see the poinsettias with the correct spot metering as a comparison, but I do love this pic anyway

This is the original effect I was going for:

In other news... even when I shoot in B&W, my camera stores the colour data in the raw file. This is one of those things that I should have known, but never occurred to me.

Both the dog and the coloured poinsettia are great photos. I think the latter would certain be a hit on stock-photo sites, too. It's vibrant and virtually pre-masked!

I'm very pleased by the lack of chromatic fringing in the poinsettia pictures. With all of those high contrast boundaries I was expecting to see it everywhere.
