Does your Greek salad come with kalamata olives?

It comes with the, uh, [makes a point of looking through the containers behind the counter] ...black ones?

[sigh]

I am long overdue to make another Greek salad - a proper one I mean. For too many places around here, a "Greek" salad is just a Caesar salad with black olives and feta cheese added to it.

In that respect, I miss Greece. Chania, on the island of Crete, to be specific.

I picked up fresh tomatoes, red onions, spices, olive oil, feta cheese, olives and rusks, all from the saturday market.

I quartered the tomatoes, sliced the onions, cracked the olives and drizzled fresh-pressed olive oil and wine vinegar on it all. OM-NOM-NOM-NOM-NOM!!

So... they're the green ones? Are the black ones just called black olives, or is there a fancy place-name for them too? O.o
