Strawberries and Gin
Jul. 29th, 2007 12:22 pmLast week I tried my second attempt at an experimental recipe involving gin and fresh strawberries. I cut the berries into thin slices and spread them out in a jar with alternating layers of sugar. I set it aside with the notion of leaving it for a few months, but it was looking pretty good...

On a hunch, I checked the Web (is there anything you can't find on the Internet?) and learned that this recipe is only supposed to be left for a week. I poured the mixture off into a spare liquor bottle, and had enough left over to fill a small glass.

It tastes as good as it looks. The only thing part of this recipe that is a bit of a shame is throwing out the rest of the berries. One might expect that they would be pretty good, with all of the alcohol they've soaked up, but they are actually quite foul. All of the sweetness and flavour has been steeped out of them. Yes, they are full of alcohol, but I'd have to be pretty drunk already before I could force myself to eat more than one or two of them. >.<
