First day back to work after Vacation
Nov. 28th, 2006 08:23 amMy new boss called this morning to express sympathy over the flood of messages that landed in my inbox while I was away. I'll just wade through the issues as I can. On the plus side, I shan't be bored this week.
I joined an MC raid last night with my new shadow spec. Since I've been a primary healer for a long time, I felt a bit awkward going in as (what I term) a utility class. I've never participated in a large raid as one of the DPS class, so it took me a bit to get used to tracking the MA as he jumped from target to target. In the end it actually worked out quite well. I kept an eye on the other healers in the group, and I made a point of dropping out of shadow form if I saw any of the key healers go down early in a fight.
Even though I spent most of the night in shadow/DPS form, I still manage to finish #3 in healing on the night - largely due to all the +healing enchants on my gear. If nothing disasterous happens in the next while (e.g., half our priests quit) then I think I'll stay with this spec -- at least until I grind enough money for my epic mount. After dancing on the edge of destitution for most of the life of my priest, I've suddenly found myself over halfway toward the cost of a new pony.
It sounds like we jumped ship from Unholy Aura just in time. I liked a lot of the folks in that guild, and I wish them no ill, but from what
atara was relaying to me from the realm forums, the guild had a major melt-down a couple of weeks ago. I can't read the forums at work, so I'll have to peruse them when I get home. By the sound of it, Dal quit the guild to form a more hardcore one, and took a number of the big names in the guild with him when he left. Ouch. Maybe they can lure a few of the folk away from Villain...

Date: 2006-11-28 05:35 pm (UTC)Have you gotten Improved Vampiric Embrace? I find that even in all +damage gear and no healing enchants, I'm still usually in the top three for the healing meters, just using VE and my shadow spells to melt faces.
Welcome to the dark side. :)
Returning to the dark side, actually. =)
Date: 2006-11-28 10:07 pm (UTC)VE definitely contributed to my finishing in the top 3 (the top healer was still almost double my numbers), but I also switched to straight healing for the boss fights. Even with my nerfed spec for healing, I still have +560ish with all my gear and enchants.
The biggest difference I've noticed when I try to do pure healing - aside from the painfully long cast times - is that my mana reserve blows through pretty fast. I'm really starting to appreciate those Holy points I'd put into buying down the casting costs in my previous spec.
