The more I work with Microsoft Access the more I want to stab my eyes out with a spork.

I love to hate Access. I try to hate Access a little each day.
Working in the basement server room in another building from my department means I don't get fired for hating Access out loud.

A lovely little bit of logic in my code that caught me was this:

There are some text-based records that will either have data, or no-data. I put in a conditional filter saying to include the records if they are <>"". I wasn't sure if they were blanks or nuls, but my thinking was that since this is an exception flag, it should just ignore it if the record is a nul.

Nope. It filtered out everything.

I changed it to filter on <>"Nul" and it spat out the records i was expecting.

W.T.F.

Maybe the logic centre in my brain is fried today, but by my thinking the first bit of logic should have spat out everything, whether it was a data-bearing record or a Nul since the condition would always be true. I... never mind. I'm going to head out and have some sushi and booze.

I am about to embark on the Create An Access Database adventure. *sigh*

But you needn't stop at a spork when you could use a Splade instead!! You are using Access, after all.

Erf, those look rare and expensive.
Wouldn't a cheap old plastic Taco Hell spork do? ;-)
Those stubby plastic "tines" it has makes it a surprisingly formidable scooping weapon. I'm sure it really could put out an eye.

The real question is WHY you work with that particular piece of ... software? x.x

The alternatives are worse?

I'm open to suggestions for alternatives, the restrictions being: 1) It has to be something 100% compatible with what I am using at work (MS Office 2003), 2) It has to be something that will run on Windows 2000 and 3) It has to be something that our IT department will support.

... and I have no idea why LJ apparently signed me out this morning. Ah well, nothing like posting anonymous replies to your own journal. =)

Well, I don't know what the IT department would support, so who knows? ^^
