It's not an unusual request: somebody who should know how to get this stuff for himself sends me a list of customer names and wants to know our internal ID codes for these customers.  No problem - that's pretty easy to do.  I'll just cut & paste the names into the EDI overview and... um.  WTF?  He sent the list as a GIF attachment!

Consider this a Teaching moment. Look at the scanned picture and type in the data. Get the data printed out and then scan it BACK to a GIF to email to the person who requested the data.

Hey, since they requested the data in a bizarre way, it is safe to assume they want it back in the same format.

We think very much alike in our pettiness. I manually typed in the data and dumped the results into a spreadsheet. I prettied it all up, did a print-preview and then used Snagit to capture it as a GIF, which is what I mailed back as my response.

Fortunately it's a long weekend here and I'm 3 minutes from heading out the door, so I won't have to listen to them whine about it until Tuesday.

Though, to be fair, Adobe Acrobat will scanalyze the docs and turn it back into a wordprocessable document if one knows how.
