I shamelessly stole this from [livejournal.com profile] atara.

Here is the latest music meme.  I queued up of songs, set shuffle and grabbed a line or two out of the first fifteen (or so) songs.  Since I'm at work and don't have access to my full playlist, you might notice a bit of a theme running through the limited playlist that I have here.  A couple of these are fairly obscure, but most are pretty easy.  I tried to pick lines from each song that would make it fairly easy to identify if you know the song in question.

See how many you can get.

1) Hey Hey Joe Joe Whatcha know whatcha know

2) The newspapers shout a new style is growing, but it don't know if it's coming or going,

3) Down in the street where lovers meet, that's where I'm waiting for you

4) We can dance if we want to, we've got all your life and mine

5) I've got twelve disciples and a Buddha smile

6) Try as I might - try as I may, yes I'll try anything to make you stay

7) He has his future in a british steel

8) I'm seeing my way for the first time in years

9) Being real is one thing, being nothing is something, but at this point there's something wrong

10) Don't tell me that they're anti-social, somehow not anti-social enough

11) It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things and people tend to pass you over because you're not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water or stars in the sky.

12) It's getting harder just keeping life and soul together, I'm sick of fighting even though I know I should

13) Waitin', watchin' the clock, it's four o'clock, it's got to stop

14) One man on a lonely platform, one case sitting by his side. Two eyes staring cold and silent show fear as he turns to hide.

15) Don't be afraid to be weak, don't be too proud to be strong

A couple of them are fairly obscure, but my source music was a disc of mostly mainstream stuff that I brought in to the office.

4: Men with Hats: Safety Dance (or is it men without hats? can't remember!)
12: Nik Kershaw: Wouldn't it be good (good song!)
13: Pearl Jam: Better Man

Definitely without hats.

I agree about that being a good song by Kershaw. Didn't get nearly as much airplay as it deserved, IMO. Maybe I listened to the wrong stations, but I only remember hearing it played once or twice when it first came out.

(1) ooh... uh... Hendrix, "Hey Joe"? Or David Bowie, "Fame"? I'm getting deja vu (deja entendu?) here.

(4) Same as above.

(7) XTC, "Nigel".

Already you've done better than I did on your quiz (where I got a sum total of zero).

I recognize #15 as the Cross of Changes (Enigma). Some of the others sound familar (#5 I can hear in my head), but I can't recognize any others except the ones that already have IDs. I truly suck at this. XD

Now it's time for me to post the answers so that everyone can say, "D'oh! How the heck was I supposed to guess THAT obscure song?"

All the ones I could get right off the top of my head are already taken (4 and 15), and the third one is driving me crazy! I can't seem to place it, although I'm pretty certain that it's a Savage Garden song. I'm going to end up Googling it and seeing what it is. Darn! I should know it if it is Savage Garden!

*Mournful cry* Noooooooooooooooo! Took me ten seconds to Google it, and now I know why it's so familiar. Argh! It's one of my favourites by [artist or group], too!

I'm not surprised that nobody got this one because I'm not sure how much airplay it got outside the Canadian markets. I heard it plenty when I was living in Vancouver (back in the 80s mind you).

I might have got more hits if the lyrics had been, "Then I wake up and you're not there, Pain finds me everywhere, Oh! but you don't care" since that song got played to death. Then again, it's not in the limited playlist that I have here so it wouldn't have come up in the shuffle anyway.
