Tires/Tyres

I am looking to replace the tires on my car before our trip down to MFF this fall, but I'm an admitted nub when it comes to tires and the sizes thereof.

The nominal size for my car (a 1993 Probe GT) is P225/50R16.  The selection of good tires in that range seems to be a bit limited, but I've been told that I can play with the sizes a bit and still stay within spec; e.g., 215/55R16.

How much leeway do I have in the sizes before I end up with something that looks (and drives) like a clown car?

Also, do any of you have any suggestion for brand and model?  Given the price of tires for my car, I'd like to restrict myself to a single set of tires (all-season) rather than trading off summer/winter tires.

I have Bridgestone Turanza tyres and am quite happy with them.

I believe you can work the width (P225) up one without problems.
I'd check into what were optional on the Probe if you can. P215 is actually narrower than what you have now.
