There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.
- Oscar Wilde

I wrote a short, silly fanfic to a (mostly dead) mailing list that I still occasionally read.  I wasn't really expecting any responses, but a reply came back.

The kind of fanfics I _loathe_. Sometimes I just want to tear their authors to very, very small pieces...

While not exactly the response I was expecting, it was still better than no response at all.  I replied to the poster with:

luv u 2 k thx bai

...

What else was there to say, really?

Tell us more of this fanfic. :D

A bit of alternate-ending silliness involving Scar pulling an "I am your father, Simba" routine at the end of the movie, with Simba taking him a bit too literally when he tells him to "look inside yourself."

He hates satire? Man, what a dull life. :3

Ah, to be reading this at the same time as the mailing list ;)

Cue the music from Psycho - we've got a live one there. I was going to ignore her little ad hominem dig at me and try to engage her in serious conversation, but after that last shot she just took I've decided to bail on the thread.

And there she goes again, sheesh, it's so hard to resist the temptation of asking her to, to put it eloquently, STFU =P

But then it's not surprising, before this her last post started with:

There's a discussion on one Russian forum about polygamy in The Lion King.
One of the recently written fanfics is based on the idea the lions are
polygamous, which has received a hostile reception from some readers
(including me :) ).

Obviously anything that disagrees with her self made perceptions of what the sacred TLK should be is target for flaming.
I'm guessing she missed that "Love will find a way" video someone just posted where Simba and Scar were implied to be involved or she would've flipped dead.

Best to be left alone, even if it's so hard to do so...

On the other hand, it's been so long since we had any kind of real discussion on the list - flamewar or otherwise - I've decided to ignore her little slights and give her a serious response.

Indeed, even a disagreing conversation can be good
But it seems it's like chatting with a rock =P

We shall see. I've tossed a serious question her way. I'm curious to see how she answers.

Her answer to that question could determine if it's worth continuin the conversation or just letting it go

I agree with what you told Elfasi, we've seen worse. Even just yesterday:

Remember at end of the movie that where Scar and Simba when they were
fighting at each other?

Her response to your follow up question just reaffirms my first impression that someone takes TLK a little bit too seriously...just a little.

Ya think? =)

I had an inkling of that when I saw the word "blasphemy" in her response.

I still like the movie a lot after all this time, but I've never put it above parody.

*L* I find myself biting my proverbial tounge and not responding with the plea for he/she/it to go get a life...please!

It's like she's an Obsessive Compulsive mother after finding out someone spoiled the beans on the Easter bunny or Santa Claus for her kids; covering her hears and going "No, no, no! You're ruining all the childhood memories! AAAHH!!"
I have the urge to continue to reply to her, but what's the point in making the only discussion in the lsit after so long turn into a flame war?

Like they say, if you don't like it don't read it =P

Hehe, someone had a serious sense of humour failure. It's a shame, I thought they were one of the more intelligent people posting lately.

We've had far worse come through the list. Aside from taking the movie way too personally, she doesn't seem like that bad a kid. I get far worse thrown my way every day at work to take her little barbs too seriously.

Er... Hi!

Ah oh. How bad I am. How couldn’t I notice it before? X)

Was reading Furry Wiki and saw you (was searching for snow leopards...) and decided to have a look at your site and LJ. :)

First of all, I’m male. ;) Why did you think I’m female?

> He hates satire? Man, what a dull life. :3

No, I don’t. Sometimes I like even black humor... But not in the case it has something to do with “The Lion King” or any other things I put above others, things mean something to me. Yes, I’m taking TLK a bit too seriously, I won’t deny. But if I wasn’t at least a bit I wouldn’t be TLK fan; it’d be just another Disney movie for me.

Well... Let’s imagine your mother is old. What would you think of humor, involving your mother’s age? Like, “Hey, old girl, did you marry before or after First World War?” Now you see?

I had an inkling of that when I saw the word "blasphemy" in her response.

You’re again taking my words too literally. Did you forget what your fanfic was about? ;) Yes, I wrote overemotional answer, but intentionally. Did you ever hear of “irony?” ;)

> I'm guessing she missed that "Love will find a way" video someone just posted where Simba and Scar were implied to be involved or she would've flipped dead.

Furahi, I posted it. And I’m still alive, as you can see. ;)

P.S. Sorry for possible mistakes in my English, my native language is Russian.
