We took down Razuvious this evening. Apparently there aren't a lot of guilds who have managed to do that yet.

There was much rejoicing.

Man, Blizzard have really gotten inventive with some of the bosses in the last few instances.

Now if only they'd get that inventive with content that doesn't require 40 people to do, which less than 10% of the player population will ever even see. c.c

Yar. No argument here. I've heard rumour that they're working on more low-level content, but most of their development had been in the end-game stuff, since people had been screaming for that earlier.

Of course, that being said, I have to admit that I am finding the end-game stuff more fun than I did the drudgery of leveling. Whether it's a 5, 10, 20 or 40-person raid, I like the group dynamics that come into play. I even find the low-level raiding more fun if I can group up with 3-4 people to do the quests.

Last night was a great example of those group dynamics. It took us about 8 tries to down him, but even people who normally go to bed by 9 stuck around until midnight because there was a general feeling that, in spite of barely scratching his armor on the first couple of tries, we were going to crack him. This guy's not easy to take down - it required incredible coordination, timing and cooperation, but the final countdown always seems to make it all worthwhile. "Ten percent... eight percent... five percent... come on guys, hit him with everything you've got! Three percent...!"

I think there were five of our original forty still standing when he finally went down.

The problem is the number of people needed to do stuff like this. Personally, I bounced through 3 guilds, then said fuck it and started an alt. Playing the game with 4 other friends isn't hard to coordinate, we do it all the time on CoX and it's fantastic; requiring 39 other people just to do anything besides money or rep farming though?
That pretty much guarantees that you'll either keep losing people (because they're not dedicated enough to be up for raiding on the hour every hour) or you'll be locked down in a MINUS FIFTY DEE KAY PEE raid-obsession extravaganza.

You can do raiding with 5-10 people as well - enough to get yourself geared up to .5 tier armour with a couple of bonus epics tossed into the mix. Most mature guilds won't have that much trouble getting 20 people together a couple of nights a week to hit up Zul'Gurub or Ahn'Qiraj 20. Those are both fun instances, and well worth investing 2-3 nights a week to crack.

It may be that you're stuck on a lousy server with lame guilds. My experience in both of the large guilds I've been in have been generally positive. All it takes is a couple of guild officers with some organizational skills.

In our current higher-level guild (Unholy Aura) we know the raid schedule at least two weeks in advance. Mind you, this week's schedule looks something like this: Monday-Naxx, Tuesday-Naxx, Wednesday-Naxx -- well, you get the idea.

They're even going a little hard-core, where people face potential censure for missing too many raids.

I admit that I was a little put-off by this at first, since I joined these guys with the understanding that they weren't a "hardcore" raiding guild. Then I realized that they're only asking for you to show up for, or at least be available for no less than 6 raids a month. I can live with that. Apparently a lot of other people can too, as we had 65 people online and clamoring to get into the raid at one point last night. Sweet. With that kind of interest Naxx doesn't stand a chance.

Yeah, but... that all still requires raiding. What if you dislike raiding? What if you like the game like it was levels 1-59? Whoops, sorry, go to the same place over and over again, pushing the same 3 buttons for hours on end, what fun. It's fun for some, but I just can't stomach it. :/
