Curse my twisted circadian cycle - by the time I'm ready for bed tonight I'll be wide awake.

I'm playing with Visio for the first time today.  It's an interesting tool, and I'm sure that I'd find it fascinating if the process wasn't putting me to sleep.

Yeah it's old. But I'd way rather use it for schematics than AutoCad.

Right there with you, man. After using Visio 4.0 for years upon years at home, I finally wrangled my employer to set me up with Visio 2000. Nifty program, but using it for isometric drawings causes me much pain.

My experience with Visio is that if you are using it for a task that the software developers had in mind, and are using the tools the way the developers thought they'd be used, then it's a gas.

Otherwise, it's a grade-A case of "this stupid software thinks it's smarter than I am, grrr grrr grrr".

There are Visio templates for schematic symbols so I guess it's not an absurd application for the software. But personally, I can't imagine drawing schematics using something that couldn't generate a netlist. But if you're drawing schematics as technical illustration (as opposed to being part of the process of creating working hardware), your mileage may be entirely different.
