Oh no, here we go again...! =(

The cartoon pretty much says it all.  This time it's my power supply that died.  I got up from my computer long enough to see [livejournal.com profile] atara off to her evening stint at the animal shelter last night, and when I returned my computer had powered itself off - for good, it seems.  I juggled around the wiring and ultimately unhooked everything but the video card, but it wouldn't power up.  I even tried changing power cords and outlets, but to no avail.  Finally I disconnected the power supply and hooked up an old FSP 350W supply that I was using in the spare computer.  To my relief, the system fired up on the first try.

If you've been reading my journal for awhile, you may recall that I was having some related problems back in June.  I probably should have returned the power supply for a replacement back then, but once I got everything working I decided that the problem was probably my n00b wiring, and not the power supply.  I should know by now that I know how to wire a computer.  Let's see how long this RMA return takes.  The last one (which is, ironically, the FSP supply that I'll be using in the interim) took nearly 4 months.

RMA'ing from Antec is usually a pretty decent process. While it takes a while they are usually good about it.

That picture came up in a GIS query when I was looking for something else. Although the picture had nothing whatsoever to do with what I'd been searching for initially, I took one look and thought, "this has icon potential..."

Mine just died this week. Looks like it was the boot disk...

You have my sympathies!

Thanks. With any luck I'll have it up and running again this evening as long as the power supply didn't take anything else with it when it died. All I tried last night with the 350W supply was a "proof of concept" power-up to see if the various lights and fans would come on.

I still don't know if this replacement supply will have enough juice to run it all once I hook the drives back up, but I guess I'll know in a few hours.
