They replaced our phone system at work this past week.  I came in this morning and found a "new" phone on my desk.  On the up side, it's nice to have a replacement for the 1990 vintage phone that I had been using.  On the down side, this is not the same phone for which I completed the phone training on Friday - in fact it's not even the same brand.  They kindly replaced my ancient phone with an equally decrepit one that's apparently seen more use than had my previous phone.

Oh, and they thoughtfully unplugged the LAN cable from my computer while they were wiring up the phone.  Based on the way things were tossed around when I came in today, it looks like they weren't too concerned about what they broke or disconnected during the process of wiring in this phone.  <sigh>

Mental note for future reference: if I ever need to hire people to rewire the phones in my house, don't recruit them straight out of detox.

At least they didn't plug your computer LAN cable into the phone jack...

True. Just to make things more interesting, a couple of hours after I got here the entire phone system crashed. I guess that's to be expected when you are rolling in a new solution (in this case we're switching to VoIP). From everything I've seen this will be a better system than the old one once they iron out the initial bugs.

It'll get interesting when the spammers figure out SoIP--Spam over IP--and your phones start ringing with spam adverts!

"Hello. Have you tried Ciazplecs today?..."
