How exactly does it work? As a periodic damage boost, or does it get destroyed and you have to rebuild it? Ironically it costs far less than the useless minipet with the same model. :p
You release it, it fights for you for a minute and then it powers down (or, more accurately, it suffers a mechanical heart attack and crashes to the ground). After a 1-hour(!) cool-down you can release it again.
I don't see it as being hugely useful, but it has a high coolness factor, and it could come in handy on those occasions when you get swarmed, and you need something to hold off a couple of angry mobs for a minute or so.
The gnomish shrink ray looks like it might actually be a bit more useful.
