The car needs expensive repairs to make it roadworthy for our trip to MFF.  It's all stuff that needs fixed, so it looks like we'll have to buck up if we plan to take The Plonqmobile to Chicago/Ohio this year.

Looks like it's going to be a lean Christmas around here this year.

([livejournal.com profile] atara keeps calling me a "girlie man" because of all my Zafara icons.  Well Zaffy is very manly as Neopets go, I'll have you know!)

*nods in sympathy*
Although my car payments were done in 1996, my Honda Accord with 357K miles now averages $275/mo in repairs during the year. My logbook of expenses testifies to this.
*sigh*

What has helped us is that we spread the workload between two cars. We'll drive mine for a couple of weeks, then drive [livejournal.com profile] atara's for a couple of weeks.

In theory, that should make both cars last twice as long between expensive maintenance. In practice, it means that I get a break from driving every couple of weeks.

I hope things work out so you and Atara can make it to MFF and still
have money for Christmas.

I like your Zarafa icons! I'd like to see more myself ^_^

I'm sure we'll still have a Christmas this year, but we'll definitely be watching our spending a bit at MFF. Unless something falls into the "ZOMG MUST HAVE" category, we'll probably be a bit tight with our cash when it comes to picking up new toys or art.

(Teeshirts notwithstanding. I can't come away from a con without at least one new shirt.)

Now I'm trying to imagine atara saying this in a cheezy Austrian accent. :)

As a matter of fact, she DID say it using a cheezy Austrian accent. =)

Your icons are cute.

....maybe a little effeminate.

....not in a bad way though.

*Grin*

Sucks to hear about your wheels. If you ever figure out a way to have set working full time 24/7 for less than five grand a year, let me know. ;)

(This refers to some crazy formula a co-worker used to convince me to buy a brand new car last year.)

This is the first (comparatively) expensive fix I've had with this car (not counting the vandalism a few years back that was covered by insurance). It's not like the repair bill hit me completely out of the blue - but it's about 1/3 more than I was anticipating when I took the car in for repairs. One of the things I asked them to look at (leaking oil) turned out to be a bit more serious and expensive than I'd anticipated.

Somebody living up on the 15th(ish) floor of an apartment block decided to use my car for target practice with their beer empties while I was visiting a friend in the same building.

I don't think the words "manly" and "Neopets" belong in the same sentence. :D

I have to agree with [livejournal.com profile] atara, Zafara has always seemed like a very girlish Neopet to me
I mean... c'mon!

Men play drums too. It's a very macho activity in fact. It's also very manly to bounce your tail around and toss your hair while you play... I'm sure that I saw somebody more manly than Phil Collins doing that at least once. Didn't Keith Moon do that once while playing drums (or was he vomiting)?

Of course they do ::pats:: ^^

That image is mesmerizing to me, BTW, I can't stop looking at that Zafara @_@

Probably because I'm such a manly guy ;)
