I bought Orange Box after our Gruul's run on Wednesday and let it download overnight. Yesterday after work I fired up Portal and played it through on normal setting from start to end. The puzzles in the game were a delight to my left brain, while my right hemisphere - which is utterly lacking in spacial skills - spent a lot of time swearing and pounding the mouse button in frustration as I missed easy jumps. Plonq has no sense of rhythm or timing.
We are going to make a third trip into Magtheradon's lair tonight. In our first try we got him down to 45% on our final attempt before we called it a night because his trash mobs were re-spawning. We went into our second attempt with high hopes of getting him to phase 3 of the fight, but it turned into a night of frustration. I think that a large part of our problem was that we had rotated a few different people into the raid for the second attempt. We do that in order to give more people raiding experience, and because some people can't make it to raids on all three scheduled nights - and because we had to substitute for a couple of no-shows.
A couple more problems cropped up on our second attempt. For one thing our damage output was slightly lower than it had been on our first attempt. This did not affect us on the trash mobs, but it seriously hampered our efforts the summoners. We were barely clearing the third summoner before Mag was released from his bindings, leaving a lot of the party dangerously close to his cleave range as we were clearing the area. It also meant that one of our off-tanks was having to hold two of the summoners for longer than should have been necessary. We also had rotten luck on two of the pulls, where Mag managed to virtually one-shot our main tank, landing 25,000+ points of damage in less than a second.
Some of our people were out with their timing, and were not disrupting the summoners before they could cast large heals on themselves. Finally people were blowing their cube assignments, either running to the wrong cubes, or not bothering to mention in the voice channel if something had come up (like they'd died, and would not be able to cover their cube). On the plus side, the warlocks and the healers were near flawless on both nights, so at least we've got that part of it down.
If we cannot, at the very least, get him to phase 3 tonight there will be more than a bit of /cry and /wrists in guild chat. If tonight is a repeat of last Sunday then it would not surprise me to see them mix up the raid roster a bit (I would not be entirely shocked if I wound up on the sidelines in favour of a hunter, or some other higher DPS class).
