Birthday presents

Unfortunately atara's birthday present did not arrive in time for her birthday yesterday, but since she already knows what she is getting, I figured it would be okay to post the details here. Actually it's something that both of us have been wanting, and since both of us have birthdays falling pretty close together, I decided to bite the bullet and order them in "his and hers". With the on-line discount being offered by this company, and the additional 12% from an employee purchase plan at my company, I decided that this would be a pretty good time to grab a pair of notebooks.

Here are some of the details on the systems (when they eventually get here):

• 100G 5400RPM HD (I considered upgrading to 7200SATA, but the upgrade price was ridiculous)


• 256MB GeForce Go 7300 TurboCache video


• 8x dual-layer DVD+/-RW


• 802.11a/g wireless networking


• Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy


• Windows XP Pro


• MS Works Suite 2006 (It was only $30, and it comes with a full version of Word)

We also grabbed a wireless pocket router while we were at it to make things easier at LAN parties.
