Zzzzz...

The cat woke me up at 2:30 this morning.  She woke me up at 2:30 yesterday morning as well.  I'm not exactly zombified for lack of sleep, but I'm definitely feeling the cumulative effects as the week wears on.  I can't really get mad at her over it because all she wanted to do was cuddle up with me.  Yes, this cat who clawed me up and bit me hard enough to draw blood down at the animal shelter has turned into a sucky ball of feline affection.  Apparently I have that effect on cats.

One of the dubious benefits of having a sloooooow network is that it makes server-based tasks take forever to run.  That frees me up for more important things -- like tweaking my LJ icons.  I'm not making wholesale changes - just a few subtle tweaks here and there.

I've always felt a bit guilty for running Windows in full Admin mode, but it's such a pain to set up the all the credentials for a more limited account that I've never bothered (and the default "guest" account is WAY too limited to be practical for everyday use, IMO).

Today I had my nose pointed at a cute little program that helps to relieve my conscience a bit.  It's a program called Drop My Rights that you patch in ahead of the application that you want to run.  Here's what it does in the words of the program's author:

DropMyRights is a very simple application to help users who must run as an administrator run applications in a much-safer context—that of a non-administrator. It does this by taking the current user's token, removing various privileges and SIDs from the token, and then using that token to start another process, such as Internet Explorer or Outlook. This tool works just as well with Mozilla's Firefox, Eudora, or Lotus Notes e-mail.

So far I've tried it with Firefox, Outlook Express, Trillian and Semagic (for which it obviously works or I wouldn't be posting this right now).  Like the subject line says, so far so good.

Not unbearable, but definitely more bitey than last week's curry was.

Same basic recipe except that I used chicken thighs instead of ground lamb, and I added some raisins late in the process.

It's at least as good as last week's curry, possibly even better.

This one is actually kind of fun.  I stole it from [livejournal.com profile] atara, but I remember seeing [livejournal.com profile] ursulav posting something similar earlier today.

You go find a song that everybody knows and put the lyrics into the Babelfish (http://babelfish.altavista.com/). Translate them from English to German, then German to French, and then French to English. Then post here with 3 clues. See who gets the song right first.

I'll do three of them. )
