SP2

I decided to designate myself as the local guinea pig and I installed SP2 yesterday.  So far so good.  The only thing that happened so far post-install is that our internet connection quit working this morning.  Coincidence, or conspiracy?

Given how unreliable our connection has been lately I'm leaning toward the former answer.

Last night I gave my mom $100.  I didn't write her a cheque, or send her a money order, or talk to a bank teller.  All I did was perform a few mouse clicks, type in a few numbers and within seconds she had the money (a fact that she confirmed in IM).  It occurred to me then that our currency had truly made the leap from tangible to conceptual.  When she spends this money on the wedding gift (this was our contribution toward my sister's wedding) she will probably pay with credit or bank card.  From the time my employer paid me until it becomes palpable merchandise, the money will never have been anything but a string of digits in various institutional computers.

I can't think of anything else to say about that, so here's a bunny with a pancake on its head.

Yikes, that sounds serious.

One of our systems is experiencing an outage.  It doesn't affect our customers, but it has a huge impact on some of the work that I do.  The original outage ticket came out this morning.  They just sent out a follow-up with this rather chilling line in it:

"ETR - Late tomorrow, if at all"

"If at all"?!?  That does not boost my confidence.  Not a bit.

Reconnected

We laid out some $$ on a new router this evening (not wireless, though not for lack of looking them over and considering them for awhile).  So far our connection has been rock solid since we hooked it up, so I'm beginning to think that the old router was the source of our problems.  Obviously I suspected that anyway or we wouldn't have ponied up for a new one.  It almost makes me feel bad that I called up and got all angsty with our service provider over the stability of the connection.  Then again they suck in a lot of other ways, so I don't feel TOO bad.
