I had a sudden craving for Ovaltine this evening.  I knew that we had some in the cupboard - in fact it's been there for ages.

Apparently it's been there for longer than I thought.

It also seems that Ovaltine does not like humidity.

The last time I opened the can it was about 3/4 full.  The contents appear to have settled a bit over time...
Ovaltine

OMG. For your own safety, a search of the cupboards might be in order, lest you have any more "surprises" like that laying around.

Like the mustard sauce. Not too long after I moved in...

Atara comes across a jar in freezer labeled "Evelyn's Mustard Sauce"...

Atara: How old is this mustard sauce?
Plonq: Dunno.
Atara: Who's Evelyn?
Plonq: Dunno.
Atara: o.O

Whiskey Tango Foxtrox?

It looks like black plastic...It's kinda fascinating in a way: what the heck biochemical reaction transformed it to that?

Methinks that a combination of heat and humidity had their way with it.

I haven't tasted it yet, but when I get home tonight I may shave off a couple small pieces - assuming it can be shaved. It's very dense and sticky.

It reminds me of the little ovaltine tablets I used to buy in highschool - like, pills of compressed ovaltine that you could just crunch away on at recess :)

Why do they call it Ovaltine? Shouldn't it be Roundtine?

Five virtual mega fun bucks to anyone that can name the source of where I stole that line.

Yay!
Reminds me of the Simpson episode where Homer buys a ton of Disney dollars, just to enter the park and see that no store takes Disney dollars ^__^

I'm guessing either SNL or Tech TV.

I don't get it... the image confuses me, what part of this picture is what?

As I percieve it, the container has been cut away, and only the bottom remains, with a bit ragged fringe of cardboard remaining. Sitting on it is a solid mass of ultra-dense black chocoloid substance.

All true - and I admit that it's taken all my willpower to avoid licking it so that I could get some pristine pictures. A part of me wants to throw it out and buy some replacement, but another voice in my head is saying, "It's still good! I could just shave off bits as I need it, or break it up and eat it like candy."

Maybe you could run it through the food processor and regrind it to crystals ...

Or I could just trim it a little around the edges. It's almost hockey season you know.

Last year I threw away a Chinese sauce whose expiry date was 1996. Also keep in mind we've moved since then, and changed refrigerators at least once before.

I KNEW there was a better copy version of that picture online somewhere. I'd forgotten who the artist was, but I just remembered. I like her stuff.

I kept trying to track it down under Ursula Vernon. I knew it wasn't her artwork, but she's who I bought the mousepad from.
