plonqAn outside agency is tracing me on a report that we used to send them, but discontinued when the system that fed the report got retired a couple of weeks ago. Recreating the report in the new system would be trivial, but actually sending it to them is another matter because the new "improved" system doesn't have the same export channels; e.g., email. I could set up a schedule to publish a beautiful replacement report to our Intranet - which would do them not an iota of good because like I said, they're an outside agency.
Early last week I forwarded it to the department I was with when I created the first reports and asked them if they had any suggestions, or even a workable solution (since this falls more under their banner anyway). They responded with a slightly tepid, ambiguous reply that suggested they might deem the report worthy of examination at some reasonable future time. Well, the future is now, and the agency is tracing me on it again.
I said, "I don't want to tell them that we're working on it, because I'm not convinced that we are. Should I respond with something generic like, your request has been escalated through the appropriate channels, and we are currently in solution mode?"
