"However, Tucker ducked questions regarding technical details of how embedded DRM would work saying it was not in the interests of his company to spell out how the technology in the interests of security."

The more I read about the new Intel chips, the more I like AMD.

It gets even better:

Conversely, Intel is heavily promoting what it calls "active management technology" (AMT) in the new chips as a major plus for system administrators and enterprise IT. Understood to be a sub-operating system residing in the chip's firmware, AMT will allow administrators to both monitor or control individual machines independent of an operating system.

Now way that could ever be open to abuse, eh?

There's my reason to never give Intel any cash.

So, the next time an Intel based PC boots, it'll display a 'Pwned' or another annoying 'L337' message?

The only way an admin will be able to 'monitor or control machines independent of an OS' is if the CPU and network card is tied closer together than they are today. Basically, they need to stick in an OS independent network stack, probably in the CPU, then make certain it works transparently of the normal network stacks running on the machine (TCP/IP, NetBeui, DLC/LLC and so on... Well, we have all those on some servers... )

Hopefully we can avoid it by using 'non-compliant' network cards...
I'd hate having to disable the onboard network card on new PCs and installing PCI type cards, but if that's what it takes to block this crap, then so be it.
(I doubt that Intel will allow us to switch off this 'wonderful new technology' by a BIOS setting)

BTW: They're not called the Whore of Satan...
