plonq: (Usual silly mood)

I nabbed a copy of Green Day's latest album in preparation for last night's concert.  I had a hunch (rightly) that they would probably perform a good number of cuts off the new album, and I wanted to have some idea of what I'd be hearing.  I have a tendency to be underwhelmed by most new albums on first listen, and this one was no exception.  By the time I'd heard some of the songs come up a couple of times in my music rotation at work they'd begun to grow on me.  This had the desired effect, because when I heard the songs at the concert last night I could say, "Oh yes, I know that song."  It's not that I'm adverse to new things, but there is comfort in the familiar.  I could enjoy the song without spending too much time analyzing it for the first time and trying to determine if I Liked it or not.

The new album is good, though not great.  It's definitely a step toward the mainstream compared to their earlier works, but it's got decent replay value and is a good addition to my regular playlist.  Don't expect anything ground breaking if you pick it up and you won't be disappointed.

A curious bit from last night's concert was the guy in the pink bunny suit who staggered out on stage while they were breaking down the set for My Chemical Romance and prepping the stage for Green Day.  It was obvious that he was planned entertainment, but I was curious to know if he was a local entertainer, or somebody who travelled with the band.  I did a quick Google search and found a review from their Cleveland show that described his antics out on stage.  In fact if you substituted the word "Winnipeg" for "Cleveland" in the review, it fit last night's how perfectly.  I find it a bit depressing that there is so little spontaneity in live entertainment.  I'm not knocking the show - it was a great show, but obviously tightly scripted.
