It's been awhile since I bucked up for a new CD, but I've heard good reviews of this one in advance.  It's quite a departure from his earlier work, but you could hear his music moving this direction in his last release.

I'm just over halfway through it, so I'm not going to pass judgement yet.  So far I don't disapprove.

I actually like the single that's been getting radio, the "bite the hand that feeds" or whatever one. Almost everybody I know who likes NIN hates it. I'm tempted to see if I can find some other downloads from the album online, so I can decide whether I want to pony up for the CD.

If someone is hoping for a return to Downward Spiral, or PHM then they will be (mostly) disappointed. There are tracks that would fit comfortably on either album.

"Hand That Feeds" is a bit atypical of the tracks on this CD. On the other hand, "All The Love In The World" is a bit atypical of Trent Reznor. O_o It's not a bad song, but it's a lot more happy and bubbly than I'm used to hearing from him.

Overall, this album feels stylistically (if not lyrically) like an extension of The Fragile, with a couple of throwbacks to earlier works, and a bit of new ground tossed in for good measure. He actually casts a fairly broad spectrum in this album, from the usual screaming angst, to curious nihilism.

I'm on my second spin through the disk now, and I've decided to give it the golden Plonqie of approval. It's not the best album he's put out, but it's not bad. My biggest complaint is that he didn't include any instrumentals on the album, as IMO those are where he does his best work.
