Date: 2005-04-22 02:54 pm (UTC)I take it the phone number wasn't automagically suppressed, that would have been just too silly.
Our e-mail system had been playing up of late, and was struggling to handle the volume of traffic. Howver, it was the series of messages sent by the admins to every single the user to tell them that it wasn't working very well that finally pushed it over the edge.

Date: 2005-04-22 08:07 pm (UTC)Waaaay back when my department used M$ Mail 3.2, and we had a dedicated PC with a modem on each office set to dial out whenever some mail needed to be sent either to another office, or to the internet through an x.400 gateway.
Someone from a contractor sent a mail to one of our users, which failed somehow...
Our system dutifully responded by returning the message to him, but that message also failed to reach its recipient, and their system returned it to ours...
THEN the systems REALLY began to slug it out.
And yes, it happened during the weekend.
Guess who had to fix the mess on monday...
