I don't think the CD drive is supposed to make that sound. O_o
The music is still playing, so I don't think it was that serious. Even so, I half expect to find little shards of CD in the drawer when I pop it open later.
A large portion of the city lost power last night. Our area had enough of a blink to put our answering machine in distress, but we didn't have to reset any of the clocks. The office didn't fare quite as well, though. I had to run around restarting servers first thing this morning when I got in.
Here's an amusing bit of trivia for the Americans on my friends list (stolen from my page-a-day Bathroom Reader calendar).
Question: Which U.S. president once confessed to murdering his own grandmother?
a) Grover Cleveland (1885-1889 and 1893-1897)
b) Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933-1945)
c) Bill Clinton (1993-2001)
Answer: b) Franklin D. Roosevelt. One of the duties of the U.S. president is to greet and make small talk with huge numbers of people in receiving lines. At one such gathering, President Roosevelt became bored with exchanging little pleasantries. He didn't think that anyone was paying attention to what he said anyway. To prove his point, as he took each patron's hand, he said, "I murdered my grandmother this morning." Most people smiled and moved on. Only one man actually listened to what Roosevelt was saying - and quickly responded, "She certainly had it coming!"
